Featured Artist: Betty Near
Betty Near was born in Michigan where she worked as an x-ray tech for 25 years. She has lived in Lake Placid for almost 40 years and joined the Co-Op in April 2008.
Betty celebrated her 90th birthday on a cruise with her family and tried her hand at Zip lining! Crafting has helped keep her young. She has also won many ribbons at the country fair over the past 40 years.
Betty does counted cross stitch on linen-type material. Cross-stitch is a form of sewing and a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled, raster-like pattern are used to form a picture. The stitcher counts the threads on a piece of even weave fabric in each direction so that the stitches are of uniform size and appearance.
