November 2018 Artist/Crafter of the Month Doris E Sargent
Doris joined the Co-op in May of 2018. She was born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where she acquired her love of sewing from her grandmother.
Doris retired in 2014 and moved to Florida. In January of this year she moved to Lake Placid and lives on Lake June in Winter with her boyfriend, Cliff.
Doris has always enjoyed sewing, she received inspiration and encouragement from her mother and grandmother. This interest led her to pursue a degree in Consumer Science and teach Home Economics. Her love of sewing developed over the years but she was not able to fully devote her time to this passion until she retired.Doris spends as much time as she can in her sewing room with a beautiful view of Lake June. Her sewing and embroidery machines are always running. She enjoys digitizing embroidery designs on her computer to use on towels, hats and other garments. The towels include catchy sayings that are usually related to wine or coffee. Other items crafted by Doris include purses, decorative pillows, hats, children’s gifts and silk scarves. She
will also honor special requests if an individual is interested in a personalized item.
Doris attended Mansfield State College where she received a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Science, and a Masters in Nutrition. While living in Raleigh NC she received her Doctorate in Nutrition from North Carolina State University.
Doris has 5 children and 10 grandchildren. Along with her sewing she enjoys kayaking, tennis, walking and bike riding. Her favorite thing to do is to sit on the patio in the evening and enjoy a beautiful sunset on the lake.
