Cherrie Platt
I am Cherrie Hinchman Platt, a current resident of Sebring, Florida. I grew up in Connersville, Indiana and worked 30 years in Indianapolis.
Crafts and art has always been a hobby for me. In 8th grade, as we were choosing our classes for 9th grade, the Art teacher suggested I do something else as I showed “no talent”. That just made me more dedicated to exploring arts and crafts.
In 1995, on a whim, I picked up a little kit, a pattern sheet, 5 tiny pots of paint and one brush. I used those instructions to paint every piece of typing paper I could find and set me to looking for more information and more kits.
The kit was created by Plaid Enterprises and Donna Dewberry. It was my
introduction to One Stroke Painting and I am still exploring , enjoying and teaching this decorative art technique. What a lucky day! This is so much fun and I get some great decorations and enjoy coloring my world. At this time I am a Certified One Stroke Instructor and make it a point to visit and paint with Donna Dewberry at least once a year.
One Stroke Painting techniques may be used on all kinds of objects and in lots of places. Over time I have painted shoes, purses, jackets, t-shirts , blouses, hats, walls, doors and trim, glasses, mugs, bowls, plates, vases, wastebaskets, mirrors, frames, canvases, wooden plaques, telephones, helmets, – oh my and so many other things. I have stated that “If you do not keep moving I may paint you!”
Currently I am enjoying my association with Caladium Arts and Crafts Cooperative in Lake Placid, Florida. My items are on display in the show room and I teach the One Stroke Painting system on Tuesdays at 2 pm in our huge classroom.
My dear husband , Gene has to put up with my collection of paintables and painting supplies and my time away from home teaching and taking classes. Each spring I look forward to leading crafting classes at the Women’s Retreat at Lake Aurora Christian Camp.
